Two films tell stories of the Mohawk community of Kahnawake in Quebec. In Club Native (2006, 78 minutes) director Tracey Deer (Mohawk) investigates a long legacy of discriminatory policy that has rent the fabric of the community. In Little Caughnawaga: To Brooklyn and Back (2008, 57 minutes) director Reaghan Tarbell traces her family connections between Kahnawake and the Brooklyn neighborhood that became known as Little Caughnawaga. There, while Mohawk ironworkers were building Manhattan’s iconic skyscrapers, the women kept their feet firmly on the ground. Following the screening is a discussion with the directors and Audra Simpson (Mohawk) of Columbia University.
