From the time they arrived in America, nearly three hundred years ago, Catholic sisters built schools, colleges, hospitals, orphanages, homeless shelters, and many other enduring social institutions. As nurses, teachers, and social workers, they entered professional ranks decades earlier than most other women. This exhibition tells their story with photographs and rare artifacts from more than four hundred American communities.
