Who Needs Enemies:
Warren Harding died of a stroke before his presidential term was finished. After his death, investigations revealed that many of the people Harding had appointed to office were dishonest and had taken bribes in exchange for government favors. Years later, President Hoover commented that Harding had been "betrayed by a few men whom he had trusted, by men who, he had believed, were his devoted friends." Either way, according to a 1962 poll of historians, Harding was considered one of the least effective presidents up to that time.
