The Durham Museum Teachers’ Night

The Durham Museum warmly welcomes educators of all subjects and grades to Teachers' Night. This festive, after-hours open house gives teachers a chance to hear what’s new at The Durham Museum and other regional institutions. Highlighting this year's event will be demonstrations by educators from the Smithsonian Institution. Participants will enjoy a cocktail reception and take home free classroom-ready materials and information about field trips and programs available to students.

Smithsonian presentations for this event complement the western expansion section of the
Eyewitness: American Originals from the National Archives exhibit that will be on view in the museum.
Postal Resources for Your Classroom
See how easy and fun it is to build your own stamp collection for classroom use in this hands-on demonstration from the National Postal Museum. You’ll try out locating stamps about westward expansion and other themes and receive a resource list for creating your classroom collection.

Look at how images and objects from the National Museum of the American Indian help to tell the stories of the impact of westward expansion on Native peoples of the Great Plains.

Smithsonian American Art Museum Electronic Field Trip: Artful Connections
Learn about free videoconference field trips for K-12 students on topics such as visual literacy, art and literature, and history. This demonstration of the museum’s Artful Connections program will sample content from the “Lure of the West” field trip.
